This site provides educational resources on proper management of private water systems including wells, springs and cisterns.

There are over one million private water systems in Pennsylvania and 20,000 new wells are drilled each year in the state. There are no statewide regulations for private water systems - management is entirely voluntary.



New On-Line Private Water System Course

Want to learn more about how to properly manage your private well, spring or cistern water supply.  Penn State Cooperative Extension now offers a 12-week home study course on that topic! The course covers groundwater, water cycle, construction of wells, spings and cisterns, water testing and interpretation, and solving water quality problems. Registration is open now for the next course that starts on April 9, 2008.  Click on the link below to learn more and to print out a registration form.
